Creating a Website
All CERN WordPress websites are provisioned through the Web Services Portal.
Anyone with a primary CERN account can create a WordPress website.
1. Open the Web Services Portal

Navigate to https://webservices.web.cern.ch/

Sign in with your CERN account

From the top-bar, click Create ▾ and choose WordPress site.
2. Fill in the site details
The Creating a WordPress site form appears.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Category | Choose between Official and Test. If you are creating an official site for a team or project, we recommend Official. This resources is reassigned when the owner leaves. Test websites are deleted six months after expiration |
| Site name | Only lower-case letters, numbers and hyphens (-) are allowed. |
| Administrator group for the site | A CERN e-group that will receive ownership notifications and grant WordPress administrator access. If you do not already own a dedicated group for the website, we strongly recommend creating one. As outlined in Roles and Permissions, this can be changed later. |
| Site description | A short, human-readable summary shown in the portal and dashboards. |

Complete every field.

Review the Design Guidelines and the Website Lifecycle Policy.

Tick I have read and agreed to the CERN Computing Rules.

Click Create.
Your website is now being created. Please allow a few minutes.
3. Wait for confirmation
A summary page confirms that the request was submitted successfully.
Do not close the browser until you see this message.
Behind the scenes, the system allocates resources, provisions WordPress and configures access control.
The site becomes reachable within ~10 minutes at: https://<site-name>.web.cern.ch.
By default, WordPress websites are behind both the CERN SSO and on the Intranet only.

Once the website is ready, you can log in to the WordPress dashboard at:
https://<site-name>.web.cern.ch/wp-admin
Use your CERN Single-Sign-On credentials.
Members of the administrator e-group automatically receive the Administrator role in WordPress.
You are now ready to add content.
